It has been three years since Cyclone Idai wreaked havoc on Mozambique. This is a tragic anniversary. Each year cyclones leave a horrific human toll in their trail. Along the way they inflict enormous financial damage.

Many people lost their homes in the disaster. Traditional financial systems do not provide sufficient support. Entrenced in old patterns they fail to keep up with the demand of building. This causes home loans to skyrocket. For most people a new house is a dream that will never come true.
The Vicious Cycle
This pushes people into unsustainable construction. They use cheap materials to build homes that will fall apart like a house of cards when the next cyclone hits. It is a vicious cycle, one disaster leads to the next. And the people are trapped in it.

In this turbulent world, the Constructor is facing daunting challenges. Traditional financing suck you into a vortex with no escape. Richard, founder of Casa Real knew this when he started the project. But he had the courage to break out of the box. He successfully launched an innovative concept of affordable housing. But this was not enough…
The Constructor’s Plan
To further break the vicious circle, Richard set ambitious goals for himself. The houses needed to be good for the environment. The building of each house should also create new jobs. By enabling this, Richard was empowering a self-sustainable community.
